This policy explains what information the Naperville Astronomical Association (NAA) collects through naperastro.org and how it is used.
Information You Give Us
When you join or renew your membership or pay for an event, calendar or book, our forms ask for your name and email address and, depending on the form, your postal address, phone number, newsletter delivery preference, the other members of a family membership, and whether you would like to add an Astronomical League membership.
We use this information to run the club: to keep the membership roster, send the newsletter, confirm payments and contact you about club business. If you add an Astronomical League membership, we pass your name and mailing address to the Astronomical League to register you. We do not sell your information or share it for marketing.
If you email us, we use your message and address only to answer you.
Payments
Payments are processed by PayPal. Your card or bank details are entered with PayPal and are never received or stored by the NAA; we receive a confirmation of the payment. See PayPal’s Privacy Statement.
Email From the Website
Emails the website sends, such as form confirmations, are delivered through SendLayer, an email delivery service.
Visitor Statistics and Cookies
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets the cookies _ga and _ga_069GREJ210 and sends Google your IP address, browser and the pages you visit. It loads only after a page has finished loading. You can block it with Google’s opt-out browser add-on or your browser’s privacy settings. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
Apart from Google Analytics and PayPal’s script on the Membership Form, the website sets cookies only for the club volunteers who sign in to maintain it.
Server Logs
Our web server records the IP address, browser, page and time of each request. We use these logs to keep the website running and secure, including temporarily blocking addresses that repeatedly try to sign in or send spam through our forms.
Other Websites
The Videos page shows thumbnails from YouTube, so opening it requests images from YouTube; the videos themselves play on YouTube. The maps on our location pages come from OpenStreetMap and load only when you open a map. The Weather page shows forecast maps from Environment Canada, so opening it requests images from weather.gc.ca. Our pages also link to other websites, which have their own privacy policies.
Keeping and Correcting Your Information
Form submissions are kept as the club’s membership and payment records. To see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, email info@naperastro.org.
Children’s Privacy
This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information through it. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are posted on this page with a new date at the top.
