The Lights of Earth's Atmosphere
Presenter: Rick Gering
Location: Streamed online.
Observing does not always need optical aids. The Moon has many features that can be observed with the naked-eye. Sometimes light from the Sun or from a full Moon is directed toward us at different angles based on the particles in our atmosphere. Many of us are familiar with aurorae and how they are influenced by solar activity as particles from space interact with our atmosphere. To observe aurorae, you must head north and time your visit when solar activity may provide a light show. However, there are some atmospheric effects that we can observe from our own backyards.
Rick will discuss some of these effects. An example is below. Attend the presentation to find out what it is!
This event is open to the public and free of charge.
