The Early Astrophotography Methods & Equipment
Presenter: Christopher Olsen, Fermilab
Christopher Olsen is a senior particle operator at Fermilab and has a degree in history. He is a student of 19th-century photography who does daguerreotypes and wet plate collodion, which are the two first photographic processes that were commercially successful.
The advent of photography in the 19th century allowed for non-subjective relaying of celestial objects, indeed while the technology has changed, the general idea has remained the same. In this talk, Olsen will cover the first 50 years of celestial photography, from Daguerreotypes through wet plate. Included will be lens considerations, limitations of the processes, and what place if any, these old processes have for the backyard observer.
The public is welcome to attend, free of charge.
This event is open to the public and free of charge.
