Code of Ethics and Conduct

The Naperville Astronomical Association provides a welcoming environment for people of all ages and backgrounds to share their interest in astronomy. We host gatherings in lecture halls and under the stars, encouraging amateurs to learn from each other and from professionals, while sharing this passion with the wider community.

The purpose of this Code is to preserve that positive spirit and to affirm our commitment to making astronomy an enjoyable pursuit for all who join us.

The Naperville Astronomical Association expects that each of its events, activities, and forums:

  • Presents a safe and respectful environment for all participants at all times
  • Is welcoming to anyone who wishes to share their interest in astronomy with other like-minded people; this includes members of any ethnicity, culture, national origin, color, immigration status, social and economic class, educational level, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, size, family status, political belief, religion, and mental and physical ability
  • Is kept free from any form of harassment, disparaging statements or actions, or vulgar or inappropriate language or acts
  • Is respectful of the many different interests that fall under the broad umbrella of astronomy and stargazing, and welcomes the participation of people with a broad range of experience, from the person just exploring a newfound interest to the lifetime enthusiast

All members, including the volunteer officers of the organization, are expected to honor and follow this Code. Failure to do so will be considered a voluntary invitation by the member(s) involved to receive from the NAA Board a warning, exclusion from participation, or expulsion from the organization.
