"It's About Time"

Presenter: Larry Jahn

What is the arrow of time? How real is it? Why do we have Standard Time? How old are the earliest clocks? “It’s About Time,” presented by NAA Librarian Larry Jahn, will afford an overview of the measure, conception, calculation, and display of time as a human endeavor. Larry will highlight attempts, from sundials and celestial mechanics to atomic clocks, to meet humankind’s obsessive need to quantify the passage of events, broken into ever tinier bits. Of particular emphasis will be the relation between timekeepers and their society’s needs and priorities. He will conclude with a thought-provoking glimpse at attempts to understand the very nature of time, from Einstein and Hawking to the ancient cosmologies.

The public is welcome to attend, free of charge.
