A Virtual Tour of Fermilab's Silicon Detector Facility

Presenter: Donna Kubik

Location: Streamed online.

Fermilab’s Silicon Detector Facility (SiDet), got its start in the early 1980s, when silicon-based detectors were able to outperform detectors like the hydrogen bubble chamber. SiDet is highly regarded for its expertise in packaging, wire bonding, & testing high energy physics detectors deployed around the world.
Donna will take you on a virtual tour of SiDet, illustrating the journey from individual sensors to focal plane to camera, using two astrophysics projects as examples: the Dark Energy Camera and the South Pole Telescope’s camera.

Donna is an engineering physicist at Fermilab working on astrophysics projects. She got her start in the world of experimental physics working on a cosmic ray experiment which led to work at particle accelerators. She eventually found her way to work in astrophysics.

This event is open to the public and free of charge.
