The Origin of the LSST: a deep time look at a brand new huge telescope

Presenter: Jim Annis

Location: Streamed online.

Where did the Rubin Observatory come from? Why is it the Simonyi Survey Telescope and the SLAC LSST Camera? When did the idea of large sky surveys for cosmology come about? Isn’t 1000 astronomers too many to do anything?

Jim Annis is an astrophysicist working at Fermilab. He was trained as a traditional astronomer at the University of Hawaii at Mauna Kea. After joining Fermilab, he became been part of the new way in modern astronomy, performing large scale cosmological surveys to create giant databases of measurements for large collaborations to research subtle statistical analyses to measure cosmology.

This event is open to the public and free of charge.
